Play Very Slowly
If I set my metronome for about 80 bpm and play two 8th notes per tick, I've found it's really easy to fix problems I'm having playing a tricky passage. It really works, and I notice the difference when I bring the piece back up to speed.

This is what I am going to have to do. Per my twitter post, Taterbug changed up my left hand form last night - it is for the better. But I am going to have to get my hand reacquainted with the neck. And I gotta do it right. That means slow, deliberate practice.

Sometimes slowing down is the only way forward, but, at least for me, it often takes real self-control to do it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, brother, that self-control is definitely a bugaboo! The metronome, too. But it does really help to rectify, clarify, and improve one's problem areas.
